Karate is an art of self-defense. Instead of using
weapons, three main techniques such as "uchi"
(arm strikes), "tsuki" (thrusts) and "keri"(kicks)
are used.
There are two sections in karate competitions.
One is"kata"(form) competition and the other is
"kumite"(sparring) match.
Around 30 schools of karate are found in Japan
and methods differ according to what school of
karate you belong to. We show you the general
view of karate at two schools we belong to. |

We have to put on head gear like the drawing to protect our
head and face from the opponent at some karate schools.
We use many kinds of kicks such as low kicks to the shin,
middle kicks to the belly and side belly, high kicks to the face,
knee kicks to belly, knee kicks to the face. We have to stop
these kicks just short of the opponents.
We do 80 push-ups every practice. Our school was opened
around 20 years ago. |
