Lifestyle / Sports Facility / Big Swan

Niigata Stadium Big Swan is the biggest sports facility in
Niigata city containing 42,300 seats. The opening game of
2002 FIFA World cup TM was held here on July 1st and
the concert of SMAP, one of the popular J-pop groups,
was also held August 30th this year. You can enjoy
watching soccer games, rugby games and track-and-field
events.

Parks and Toyano lagoon are near to Big Swan. Many
people can be seen on holidays even if games and events
are not held. Some are jogging around the park, some are
playing in the park, some are just relaxing and watching
the lagoon. A lot of swans visit the lagoon from Siberia
and people enjoy watching swans during winter.

The people having engaged in constructing this facility
wished the stadium to be as close to the hearts of the
users as the poeple in Niigata love swans and made of
swan's-wings-shape roof. This is the reason why this
stadium is called as Big Swan.
