Japanese Folk Songs / Minyoo (Outline)
"Minyoo" are folk songs which used to be a part
of Japanese daily life. The songs reflect peoples'
emotions in daily life and regionality.
They have been sung in many parts of Japan and
handed down from generation to generation for a
long time.

Each of "minyoo" varies in its original music,
words, tempo and the way of singing. "Minyoo"
can be classified into two groups. One is sung by
a lot of people together with clapping and the
other is sung alone. Flutes, drums, "shakuhachi"
and "shamisen" are used for accompaniment.

There are many "minyo" in each prefecture
and examples are as follows.
